Quick Review of iPods

The new iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad are the most popular of the Apple iPod family, and they are all three quite similar in performance and function. They feature a touchscreen and easy-access applications (called apps) for high user-friendliness. They are the most powerful of all the iPods because they allow the user to do a nearly unlimited variety of things. This includes surfing the web, checking your email, playing games, watching movies, watching YouTube videos, GPS navigation, taking high-quality photos and HD videos, and much much more for these are just the basic functions pre-installed on the device. They all three even allow text messaging, phone calls, and video calls (both Facetime and Skype) without the need for a mobile phone contract or prepaid plan (it’s free on WiFi). These iPods therefore also feature two cameras (one on the front and one on the back). With access to iTunes and the App Store, music, movies, games, and over 500,000 apps are all just a swipe and a tap of the finger away. The touchscreen is so user-friendly, Apple has incorporated the ‘pinch zoom’, ‘finger scroll’, ‘swipe delete’, and many other gestures to easily navigate and operate the device. Operation feels like second nature to a user after experiencing it for only a few minutes. The iPod Touch is really a small version of the iPad or an iPhone without the cellular technology of a mobile provider.

The iPod classic is just like the name implies. It is the first type of iPod Apple released in 2001, but it has been improved to feature a much larger storage capacity and more attractive screen. It can store movies, pictures, and movies and is now available with 160GB of storage which equates to approximately 40,000 songs. It is a bit more bulky than the other iPods (minus the iPad) but is geared towards extreme music and movie lovers who need their entire collection with them at all times!

The iPod Nano used to be a small version of the iPod classic, but it now features a touchscreen for enhanced user-friendliness and added features. It is about an inch and a half squared in size and comes with a clip on the back. This type of iPod is the most portable (apart from the more basic iPod Shuffle), and it is often used for working out at the gym, biking, or running. It is much like the iPod Shuffle, however, the shuffle lacks a display. The iPod Shuffle is even smaller than the iPod Nano and also has a clip, but the user must blindly navigate the tracks to listen to their music (hence the name Shuffle). The iPod shuffle only plays music and has the smallest storage capacity. The iPod Nano can be used to store pictures as well, and the small yet crisp and vivid touchscreen is also used to display album art. The Nano also features an FM radio when you’re in the mood for something different, or you can just give it a shake and it will shuffle to a random song. The iPod Nano and Shuffle are widely used for fitness and sports because of their size, but the Nano has more fitness capabilities like a built in accelerometer to keep track of your steps. The iPod Shuffle is less expensive and works well for someone who just wants to listen to some music without any bells or whistles!

The iPod touch is pretty sweet! I love it because it is really like a mini iPad.
